What is Ayurveda ?
The aim of Ayurveda is to integrate and balance the body, mind, and spirit which in turn is believed to help prevent illness while promote wellness.
In Ayurvedic philosophy, people, their health, and the cosmic universe are all thought to be inter-related. It is further believed that health problems can result when these relationships are out of balance.
Considered by many scholars to be the oldest healing science, Ayurveda provides and promotes a holistic approach to health that is designed to help people live long, healthy, and well-balanced lives. The term Ayurveda is taken from the Sanskrit words - ayus, meaning life or lifespan
- Veda, meaning science or knowledge
The Science of Life!
Practiced in India for more than 5,000 years, has only recently become popular in Western cultures - the latter part 20th century to be precise. The "contemporary" form of Ayurvedic medicine is mostly derived from several sacred Indian texts which were written in Sanskrit between 1500 BC and 400 AD. The basic principle of Ayurveda is to prevent illness by maintaining balance in the body, mind, and consciousness through proper drinking, diet, and lifestyle, as well as herbal remedies.
