EAR, NOSE, THROUT DISORDERS OF THE MOUTH
MOUTH ULCERS
A mouth ulcer is simply an inflamed spot in the lining of the mouth. In Ayurveda it means there are an excess of toxins within the tract, and a loss of immunity. Mouth ulcers could occur in various forms
- Aphthous or Traumatic ulcers - These are simple ulcers, pale yellow and sensitive spots with red borders, that sting when spicy food is eaten.
- Cold Sores - These are blisters within the mouth which could later spread to the outside of the mouth
- Oral Thrush - This comprises sore patches that could also occur in the throat
Oral Lichen Planus - In this disorder a number of small pimples erupt, which grow and join together to form a network of ulcerated mouth lining Avoid spicy foods. Recommended foods are those rich in Vitamin C and B complex.
TOOTHACHE AND TOOTH DECAY
A toothache is a pain along the nerves enclosed within the tooth. The pain occurs because these nerves become inflamed and sensitive. Very often this inflammation is related to inflammation of the surrounding gums, as in gingivitis or abscesses. If the tooth that is aching is very badly decayed, it will have to be removed. The health and strength of the teeth depends a lot on the state of the gums.
If the gums are healthy and strong, teeth too will be healthy and will be able to repulse the bacteria that are constantly prone to multiply when left over food particles get stuck in the cavities. There is tooth decay on eating food that is very sweet, cold or hot. In the beginning the toothache is mild but at a later stage the episodes of pain last longer.
There could also be an unpleasant taste in the mouth due to dead bacteria cells in the area, and a swelling in the gums, signifying that the infection is progressing. In case of very advanced decay the tooth has to be removed.
INFECTION OF THE SALIVARY GLANDS
As with any other organ or part of the body, salivary glands become infected when their immunity is less than it should be. Poisonous substances in the food could trigger this. The glands become swollen and painful. Cervical glands may also enlarge in reaction.
TONGUE DISORDERS
The tongue can tell us a lot about the inner situation of the body. Formerly the physician would check, as part of his routine in diagnosis - the eyes, nose, nails, throat, mouth and tongue of the patient, for all of them would give him clues about the internal condition of the patient. All tongue troubles are usually symptoms, mirroring deeper problems in the digestive tract. The cures given above are basic
